When we think of Reiki, we understand that its roots lye in the East. But as Reiki has moved its way around the world, it has evolved in the
West in many ways.

Don't you love the history of Reiki? I love teaching it to new students in my Reiki Level 1 classes. The roots and foundations of Reiki are so beautiful and pure and everyone is fascinated in Dr. Usui's journey into the founding of Reiki, the wonderful Life Force Energy of the Universe.

But in modern times, we see that it's not just Reiki Ryoho anymore- Reiki is branching out into all kinds of directions and forms.
Rainbow Reiki, Karuna Reiki, Holy Fire Reiki, Blue Star Reiki, etc. etc... This list could go on and on and will continue to grow over time as Reiki grows as well.
As for me, I have practiced not only Reiki, but Shamanic journeying techniques also. I began fusing these techniques together in my healing practice to create a whole new experience for clients.
Each Reiki practitioner is different- with a different flavor or healing ability. So just like a thumbprint, we each can have a unique edge that we bring to our Reiki practice.

As a Reiki practitioner of the Western world, I have come to heavily rely on my intuition and guides to work with me in my practice. Although traditional symbols are used often in the original works of Reiki, I allow my guides to show me what symbols -if any- are needed for the healing process to take place. Many times I don't even use them! I let Reiki take the steering wheel and do what it does best! HEAL!

Just know that you are on your healing journey and the journey to heal others for a higher purpose, so whatever feels right for you is what is right for you.
We can't have a tree without roots, and we can't get sun without the new leaves that grow in every direction. It is all part of the same thing. As Reiki continues to grow and expand, we will watch it change, and change is beautiful.
