Healing Trauma Wounds with Reiki
When you step into human life, trauma is inevitable.
The event of being born is said to be one of the most traumatic events in our lives. Trauma shows up on day 1 of the human experience and follows us until our final days.
As we progress through our lives traumas can accumulate within the body and cause us immense pain, both physically and emotionally.
Trauma, when looked at from a metaphysical perspective, is any event that caused a surge of energy within us which the body cannot process. When our bodies cannot process these surges of energy, they remain stored in our energetic body and can manifest into the physical form.
There is no such thing as ‘little’ trauma or ‘big’ trauma- all trauma is trauma. Your trauma may be having your book stolen at the playground in school, or being sexually abused. Whatever your traumatic experience may be, if it is in your memory or has been stored in your body, it is a trauma. Each trauma has its own cascade of detrimental consequences and manifestations and deserves healing.
Trauma that is rooted in childhood, particularly ages 0-7 years old is particularly significant because the conscious mind is not yet developed. Therefore, all events are taken personally and imprints directly on the subconscious. Childhood traumas occur when we do not have the tools to properly process the trauma, and so instead of working through it we internalize it, store it, and leave it to fester behind a wall of limiting beliefs, energetic boundaries, and physical disorders.
But how does the body store the traumas we experience?
The answer lies in physical and emotional disorders. Every disorder has a root, and that root was created during a heightened emotional event from the past. It comes from unprocessed emotions and energy. When this energy fails to be processed, it gets lodged in the body. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that every organ in the body has an associated emotion- for example, anger in the liver and grief in the lungs. These are parts of our body where particular emotions are stored and then can create physical dis-ease within us. These unprocessed emotions can also create mental and emotional disorders which will continue to impact our everyday lives until we can understand them and process the energy that is "stuck."
The body is the last and loudest warning signal for traumas and disorders. When the energy of a trauma is stored in the body, its physical manifestations are often what we try to treat first. We try to alleviate the symptoms of the trauma, rather than the trauma itself.
But this is where the beauty of Reiki can come to play.
Although most clients come to us as Reiki practitioners in hopes to heal their physical ailments, our practice allows us to heal at the root of the issue. Reiki can be used as a "backdoor" to access the cause of the physical problem and heal the trauma that is the true cause of discomfort.
Being a Reiki practitioner is an incredible opportunity to help heal people at their deepest wounds- their emotional and energetic wounds. When these are healed and released, clients are able to get healthier and happier and let go of the past which may have been holding them back.
We don't have to have a degree in psychology or be a doctor to create deep, true healing in the people in our community. We can help people release these traumas that they store within their energetic and physical bodies. It is such a blessing to give Reiki to others. But never hesitate to refer your client to a licensed therapist and help your clients collaboratively. Team efforts with other practitioners is often required when working on trauma.
We can help people find their empowerment by using Reiki to let go of the traumas that are held within them. So go out and give Reiki to those you love and share Reiki with your community. Together we can bring healing to our earth tribe and help release these traumas that bind so many of us from our highest potential.
